She had an ASK.fm account but deleated it a couple of weeks ago. We have had a campaign of hate against her because an account has been set up in her name and apparently linked to her twitter account which then set off to insult and hurt members of her school. As it is in her name her friends believe she has done these things and there is a campaign of hate where 30 plus other pupils surrounded her today, some of whom told her to die, everyone hates her etc We are trying to prove that these messages did not come from our IP address. Does anyone know how we can do this? If it should be deleted, so should twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. They are all good when used in the right ways, but are easily used for cyber bullying and harassment. People can post anonymously here; they also can make new accounts to harass you on other websites so you don't know who it is. So I don't know what the big deal about it being anonymous is. Also, I find it strange that most people commenting have no problem with facebook but freak out about this. Finally, there is the option to disable anonymous asking on your profile. "I'm a Dad. I saw some abuse on my Daughters. Researched it and was horrified to see ask.fm allowed anonymous posts and the role they had in two suicides in Ireland and now Jessica too. I felt compelled to do something in November and I raised awareness with the school because even though it happens out of school the impact happens in school where the emotional well being of the pupil is most disrupted due to the fact the bullies are probably in the playground too. We pulled a campaign together and I managed to get the TV cameras to cover it too. These suicides are supported by ASK.FM who blame "cruel children". Just google "ciara pugsley" and "Erin Gallagher". The site is integrated in to Facebook so if someone does post horrid cowardly comments all their friends get to see it on FB too! Ive written to Mark Zuckerberg and ask.fm but as usual - no response. They seem to think its ok to supply tools that make children kill each other. Within a week we managed to change the attitude of an entire school of 1,000 children from them thinking is was funny and okay to "actually some of my friends are not as thick skinned as me and it needs to stop" During my investigation I saw comments like "Im going to get you raped 6 times then stabbed in the head" and "even your friends think you are a c**t and you're going to die". A constant barrage of this abuse is what drives some people that cant handle it to suicide. People ask the question "Why dont you just get off/delete it". Well - there are two simple reasons. 1) the person being abused feels a need or a right to reply to not appear weak. sadly replies "fuel" the bully as they are getting a reaction from the person beoing abused and often their friends. 2) The person being abused wants, in fact NEEDS, to know what is being said about them otherwise they worry that people would be laughing at them as they may know something they dont. Sadly these reasons keep people engaged with the very thing thats hurting them. It now looks as though he has been the instigator of these messages when he is not. He did use Ask.fm until recently but closed down his account. It would seem that anyone can open an account and pretend to be whoever they like, posting messages in the name of the innocent person named.
