The Scarsdale Public Library
's widely popular annual Summer Reading Game kicks off on Friday\, June 21
\, with a performance by the local Scarsdale band\, Miss Gigi and the Lend
Me a Hand Band\, which features interactive songs and musical games.
The kick-off will be held at
the Scarsdale Library on Olmsted Road from 3:00 to 3:45 pm. No reservatio
ns are required.
The Sum
mer Reading Game encourages children from infants through 4th grade to rea
d or be read to during the summer months. Awards are given based on the nu
mber of books read or listened to. After two books\, the participating chi
ldren receive a sticker\, after five books\, they can dig into the 'Treasu
re Chest' for a fun prize and after 20 books they receive a book. To encou
rage the children to come to the library\, they receive a raffle ticket ev
ery time for a drawing for a $5 certificate at Haagen Daz\, donated by the
local ice-cream store.
'When the children come to the library\, we like to have them discuss the
books they have read with a librarian or have someone read a book to them\
,' says Karen Zielinski\, head of Youth Services. 'The program has also be
come family event with older children reading to their younger siblings.'<
/span>

lick on the Summer Reading Program link.
Last year 267 children participated in the program and read an
impressive total of 4\,799 books\, about 18 per child.

During 'A Night on Fire\,' the fire juggling and comedy troupe 'A Di fferent Spin' will light up Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow. 'A Night o n Fire' includes two performances per night\, that will take place both Fr iday\, June 21\, and Saturday\, June 22 at 8:15 and 10 p.m. The performanc es will feature stunts and family friendly humor for audiences of all ages .

\nThis one-hour performance is a fully choreographe
d\, live display of fire arts featuring four flame-wielding\, fire-eating
performers twisting and turning\, juggling and dancing\, spinning and swor
d fighting. The vaudeville-meets-funk sounds of Emperor Norton's Stationar
y Marching Band kicks off the show.
Though it is a separate ticketed performance\, 'A Nig ht on Fire' is a complement to Animals & Acrobats\, which takes place 10 A M-5 PM at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson on Saturday\, June 22 an d Sunday\, June 23. Animals and Acrobats features a variety of performers and animal conservation groups. An ambassador wolf\, stilt-dancers\, soari ng acrobats\, gargantuan puppets\, and the chance to hone your circus skil ls are some of the event's highlights.

irls in grades 3 to 8 has begun with a six-team league and over 45 players

\nMatches are being played on Mondays in June from 6 to 7 PM and 7 to 8 PM at the Middle School Tennis Courts. Each team matc h will consist of a singles match and a first doubles and second doubles m atches so players can play at their skill level.

\nRe gistration to play on a team is still open. To register\, just show up at the Middle School Tennis Courts. The registration fee is $15 paid to the S carsdale Rec Department. All players will receive a Scarsdale Rec Tennis T -shirt\, and trophies will be awarded to members of the league championshi p team.

The Westchester Band's Free Outdoor Concerts in Chase Park will be celebrating it's 44th season. The b and was created in 1969 by it's founder Dr. Joesph Albright. In his 9th se ason the current conductor\, Alan Hollander.
\nThe 80 piece band\, under the directorship of Mr. Hollan der\, combines the talents of professionals\, amateurs\, and student music ians. Performances will include music from popular to opera. g of the summer Tots curriculum\, including Soccer Tots\, All Star Slugger
s (baseball)\, Lil' Pigskins (football)\, Hoopsters Tots (basketball) and
Tumble Tots.
Children and their parents will have the opportuni
ty to meet the House of Sports Tots instructors and get a better understan
ding of the goals of the program. The Tots sports programming uses a varie
ty of fun and games to delight and engage young children in physical activ
ity. The House of Sports staff operates in a non-competitive environment w
hich promotes fun above all else.
