Tear Downs

E-mail Print PDF

Builders appear to be back in full swing in town – tearing ‘em down and building ‘em up.  This week we noticed that a house at 53 Paddington Road was gone.  In July, CJS Building Corporation applied to the Board of Architectural Review to construct a new home on the site.  On Montrose Road, another old house vanished an expansive new home is in the works, towering over neighboring homes.

Same story at 2 Willow Lane, once the site of a beautiful old home pictured here. The house is now razed and according to the Board of Architectural Review agenda, Mr. and Mrs. Feilbogen applied to build a new home on the site in July as well.

Another new house is going up fast at the corner of Brite Avenue and Tory Lane. If anyone has a photo of the house that was there before, please share it with us.

While the Committee on Historic Preservation mulls over the preservation of our neighborhood character, builders are busy changing the landscape.  If you see a house going down on your street, comment below or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. House torn down on Sycamore. The former tenants are trying to get permission to sub-divide and build 2 (I heard they originally wanted to squeeze in 3) houses despite the fact that they don't have the required frontage. Talk about ruining a neighborhood!

Sad to see Scarsdale losing so many older homes. I don't think this is an event to be celebrated. The Village is losing its history and charm.
